Address: 2333 S State Street

Drive to the Diag: 9 minutes

Drive to Rambler: 8 minutes

If you live near Michigan Stadium or the South Campus apartments, Devon Self Storage is one of the closest and most convenient storage facilities near the University of Michigan. Units here start around $60 to $95 per month for smaller spaces, with mid-size units around $100 depending on size and availability. These rates can be affected by promotions that typically offer a first month free for long-term rentals.

The facility has climate-controlled units, gated access and security cameras, which are helpful if you’re storing electronics, books or furniture during the summer.

What makes this spot especially popular with students is how flexible it is. Devon specifically advertises student storage for internships, study abroad or moving between apartments, which may be something you’ll need during your time as a student in Ann Arbor.

2. National Storage

Address: 1645 Plymouth Road

Drive time to the Diag: 13 minutes

Drive time to Rambler: 12 minutes

Public Storage is one of the most commonly used storage options for University of Michigan students, mainly because it’s affordable and very easy to access from campus. Located just south of downtown Ann Arbor, the facility offers a range of unit sizes, from small closet-style lockers to larger units that can hold furniture from a full apartment.

Prices can change depending on promotions typically running around summer move-in months, but as of 2026, the base rent started around $74 per month for a small 5×10 unit, with larger units costing upwards of $600 per month depending on availability.

Students like this location because you can drive directly up to many units, which makes move-in and move-out days way less stressful when you’re hauling boxes or mini-fridges. The facility also offers month-to-month leases and keypad entry, so you’re not locked into a long contract if you only need storage during summer break or a study-abroad semester.

Address: 2500 S Industrial Highway

Drive time to the Diag: 9 minutes

Drive time to Rambler: 8 minutes

National Storage is a great option if you spend more time around North Campus or the medical campus. The facility offers climate-controlled units and larger storage options, making it a good fit if you’re storing furniture, bikes or multiple roommates’ belongings together.

Prices typically start around $50 to $90 per month depending on the unit size, which is pretty typical for Ann Arbor storage rates. National Storage also offers seasonal promotions, like $1 for your first month rental, that usually coincide with move-in and move-out schedules.

Students tend to like this location because it’s very quick to reach from campus but not directly downtown, so it’s usually easier to park and load your stuff. It’s also common for grad students or engineering students on North Campus to store things here during internships or summer travel.

4. Inn Storage

Address: 1251 Rosewood Street

Drive to the Diag: 9 minutes

Drive to Rambler: 8 minutes

Inn Storage is a local Ann Arbor storage company, which makes it feel a little more personal than the big national chains. If you prefer dealing with a smaller business instead of a corporate company, this is a solid option.

Because they’re local, their prices aren’t fixed and fluctuate depending on demand. Contact Inn Storage for up-to-date unit prices.

Students often choose Inn Storage because it offers simple month-to-month rentals and a quieter facility compared to some of the larger chains. If you’re just looking for a place to stash dorm furniture or apartment stuff during the summer, it’s a straightforward and reliable choice.

5. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Ann Arbor

Address: 3655 S State Street

Drive time to the Diag: 12 minutes

Drive time to Rambler: 11 minutes

This location is perfect if you’re moving apartments and need storage at the same time. U-Haul combines truck rentals, moving supplies and storage units in one place, which makes it super convenient during Ann Arbor’s chaotic August move-out season.

Small storage units typically run $50 to $70 per month, and the company frequently offers discounts or free storage with truck rentals.

University of Michigan students like this option because you can rent a truck, move your stuff and store it all in one stop, which saves time when leases overlap or when you’re between housing.

After getting ready for college, packing up your things and making the trip to Ann Arbor, the last thing you want to deal with is scrambling to find somewhere to store your belongings before move-in day. Having a storage unit nearby can make the whole transition easier and give you one less thing to worry about while you wait for your apartment to be ready.

The storage facilities near the University of Michigan listed above offer convenient options for safely storing your items until it’s time to settle into your new place.

If you’re still planning your move or searching for student housing in Ann Arbor, reach out to the Rambler team. We work with University of Michigan students every year and are happy to help answer questions about move-in or help you find the right place to call home.
