UMich students love Hazel’s matcha for its use of ceremonial-grade matcha and customizable options. Flavors rotate seasonally, with past versions built on syrups like banana bread and salted maple, so the matcha here changes with the time of year.

2. Bun Chai

5. sml wrld cafe

Sml wrld cafe started as an Ann Arbor pop-up before landing a permanent home inside the Shinola store downtown. Since then, it’s built real cult status among UMich students on social media. Because it’s downtown, this one is more of a destination trip than a quick stop between classes.
Everyone loves sml wrld’s matcha for being the main focus of the shop. Every drink is made non-dairy by default with oat or other plant milks, giving the matcha a cleaner finish than a whole-milk version. Daydreamer Coffee is opening right inside of Rambler Ann Arbor’s lobby in 2027. For right now, it’s operating out of the Rambler leasing office in a pop-up cart. Daydreamer is a coffee brand built specifically for student housing communities, so the space and menu are designed with students in mind from the start.
Students love Daydreamer’s matcha for how many ways there are to order it. The lineup rotates seasonally and treats matcha as its own category rather than an afterthought, with signature builds like the Blueberry Dream Matcha landing closer to a dessert drink, and a simple Honey Oat Matcha for something more classic.
