The Carpenter is the more compact of the two 1×1 layouts, making it a strong option for students who want a private apartment while still keeping things simple and efficient.

The layout combines the kitchen and living area into one connected space that feels easy to navigate and straightforward to furnish throughout the school year. Because the layout is slightly smaller overall, it may appeal to students who want less upkeep while still having enough room to comfortably study, relax and host a friend or two occasionally.

Another major difference is location within the building. The Carpenter appears on Levels 2 through 12, giving students more flexibility when selecting floor placement.

The Carlyle

Located on Levels: 14-17

The Carlyle is the larger of the two 1×1 layouts at Rambler Ann Arbor, making it a great option for students who want a little more room to spread out throughout the school year.

The layout keeps the same connected kitchen and living flow found in the other 1×1 floorplans, but the additional square footage helps the apartment feel more open overall. This can make a noticeable difference if your apartment doubles as your study space, relaxation space and social space during the semester.

The Carlyle also includes an accessible unit option, available on Level 17, offering a more open feel with additional space to move comfortably throughout the apartment.

One of the standout features in The Carlyle is the inclusion of a kitchen island, which adds extra functionality to the layout while helping create more separation between the kitchen and living areas. Some Carlyle layouts also include extra windows, bringing in additional natural light and helping the apartment feel brighter throughout the day.
