If you’re thinking about living off campus at Rambler Ann Arbor, one of the first questions you’re probably asking is: How far is Rambler Ann Arbor from Michigan’s campus?
Whether you’re walking to the Diag for morning lectures, heading to the Big House for a game or grabbing coffee along South University, location is everything when it comes to picking the right apartment.
At Rambler Ann Arbor, we understand the importance of location, which is why our building puts you in the middle of it all.
Here’s everything you need to know about the distance from Rambler Ann Arbor to campus, how long it takes to reach key UMich destinations and what your daily commute will actually look like.
Distance from Rambler Ann Arbor to Campus

Rambler Ann Arbor is located at the corner of Church Street and Willard Street, directly across from East Quad and near both the Ross School of Business and the Law Quad. This makes it about a 7-minute walk from the Diag, the center of campus at Michigan.

Key distance facts:
- Steps from East Quad — one of the most central residential buildings on campus
- Walking distance to the Diag, the heart of academic life at UMich
- Central location with easy access to Hill Street, South University and East University
For most students, this means you can roll out of bed and be in class in minutes. No car, no bus and no stress.

- The Law Quad: 7-minute walk

Commuting Options from Rambler Ann Arbor to Campus

Even though walking covers most of your needs, there are several other ways to get around depending on your schedule.
Walking to Campus
Walking is the most natural option when you’re this close. The benefits are straightforward:
- No cost, no wait, no parking hassle
- Flexible timing that fits around your schedule
- Easy access to coffee shops and food spots along South University on the way
For students with classes scattered throughout the day, being able to walk home between lectures, and actually make it back, is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade.
Biking to Campus
Biking is a great option if you want to cut your commute time even further or need to cover more ground across campus.
- Bike racks are available throughout central campus
- Ideal for students with back-to-back classes in different, far-apart buildings
Ann Arbor winters are real, so most students bike heavily in fall and late spring and lean on other options when the snow hits.
Driving to Campus
If you bring a car to Ann Arbor, Rambler’s location keeps you close to major campus access points. That said, Ann Arbor is notoriously tight on parking, so driving to class every day isn’t the most practical move for most students. A car is most useful for getting off campus, whether that’s a grocery run, an internship commute or a weekend trip.
Blue Bus and The Ride (Public Transit)

As a University of Michigan student, you have two strong public transit systems available, and both are free.
UMich Blue Buses connect Central, North, South and Medical campuses. During fall and winter terms, buses run approximately every 10 minutes and some routes to North Campus operate until 2:00 a.m. or later. This is especially useful if you have classes or labs on North Campus.
The Ride, also known as MRide, is Ann Arbor’s city-wide bus system. Students can ride city buses free by swiping their valid MCard. The Ride connects you to shopping, entertainment and neighborhoods throughout Ann Arbor well beyond what the Blue Buses cover.
For late-night situations, UMich also offers Safe Ride, a free service within a one-mile radius of campus during fall and winter terms.
You can track both systems in real time using the Magic Bus app or the Transit app.
